Summary

Ember is built to keep your financial information private. By default your data stays on your device. We don't sell your data and we don't track you across other apps. The free version shows ads that are not personalized; Plus and Premium have no ads. Your financial information is never shared with advertisers.

Who we are

Ember Personal Finance ("Ember") is provided by Ibrahim Gonzalez LLC, an Arizona limited liability company ("we," "us"). Questions about this policy: nibrahimgonzalez@icloud.com.

Information you enter

You may enter account names and balances, assets and debts, transactions (typed in or imported from CSV files), budgets, goals, credit scores, household members, and planning assumptions such as age and retirement goals. In offline mode this information is stored only on your device.

Your account

To create an account we collect your email address and a password. When cloud accounts are enabled, your Ember data is stored with our infrastructure provider so it can sync across your devices and be restored. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.

Bank connections (optional)

If you choose to link a bank, we use Plaid Inc. to connect. You log in to your bank through Plaid, not Ember, and we never see your bank username or password. Plaid shares account balances, transactions, and related details with Ember so we can show them to you. Plaid’s use of your information is governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. You can disconnect a bank at any time.

Market and economic data

To show stock prices and news, Ember requests public market data for the ticker symbols you choose or hold. To show economic indicators, Ember requests public data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED), the Federal Reserve, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. These requests do not include your name, email, or balances.

AI assistant

The Ember assistant uses Apple’s on-device model. Your questions, and any numbers you choose to include, are processed on your iPhone and are not sent to us or to a third-party AI service.

Face ID and passcode

If you turn on Face ID lock, verification is handled by iOS. Ember never receives your face data or passcode.

Diagnostics and support

Ember keeps a short log of app errors on your device. It contains error messages, not your financial data. It is only sent to us if you choose to include it in a support email or problem report. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message.

Advertising (free version)

The free version of Ember shows full-screen ads from Google AdMob. We ask only for non-personalized ads, so we do not ask to track you and Ember does not use your advertising identifier for targeting. To show an ad and count it, Google may receive technical information such as your IP address, device type, and app version, under Google’s privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Your balances, transactions, plans, and other financial information are never sent to Google or any ad network. Plus and Premium have no ads.

Payments

Subscriptions are purchased through Apple. We receive confirmation of your subscription status, not your payment card details. We may use a subscription service provider (such as RevenueCat) to manage subscription status.

How we use information

Only to provide and improve Ember: showing your finances, syncing your data if you use an account, answering support requests, preventing fraud and abuse, and meeting legal obligations. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we never use your financial information for advertising.

Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS). Your financial data on your device is encrypted with AES-256 using a key kept in the iOS Keychain, on top of iOS’s own file protection. Cloud data is protected with access controls so each account can reach only its own data. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you of a breach as required by law.

Retention and deletion

Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app. You can delete your account and all associated cloud data at any time in Settings → Account → Delete account. We may keep limited records where required by law.

Your choices and rights

You can view, edit, and delete your information in the app. Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for using these rights. Children

Ember is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

We may update this policy. If changes are significant we will let you know in the app. The effective date below shows when it last changed.
